Asia-Pacific
Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (APN+) APN+, the Asia Pacific
Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS is committed to improving the quality of
life of people with HIV/AIDS in the region. It was born in February 1994 when
42 people living with HIV/AIDS (PWHA) from eight different countries met in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia to lobby for the betterment of PWHA in the Asia Pacific region.
The PWHA present were from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore,
Taiwan, and Thailand. A Board of Representatives was set up and the secretariat
was based in Kuala Lumpur under the supervision of the founder, Jack Singh.
Today
APN+ has become a regional network of GNP+ (Global Network of People Living with
HIV/AIDS) with contacts and representatives in over 23 countries including Australia,
Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, French Polynesia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan,
Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa,
Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Pakistan and the Philippines.
APN+ Mission Statement APN+ is formed to give life to PWHAs in
the Asia-Pacific region. With APN+, we are hope. Aims of APN+

provide a strong, pro-active voice and advocate on behalf of PWHA in the region |

To lobby for equal representation of PWHAs on all relevant decision-making bodies |

To facilitate communication and the exchange of information between PWHAs on a
range of issues including medical and social support |

provide opportunities for PWHAs to develop a range of skills in order to respond
to the needs of PWHA within their own countries |

give visibility to PWHAs in order to overcome the fear, ignorance and prejudice
they face and to counter all forms of discrimination against PWHAs |
