Ongoing
Restructuring of ASAP
ASAP issued an invitation to organisations to lodge
applications to become organisational members. An
increasing number of applications from organisations
were received throughout June leading up to the
ICAAP in July. |

Meeting
of Executive Committee of ASAP
Preparations were made for a formal meeting of the
ExCo during the 7th ICAAP in Kobe, Japan in July
2005. |

Re-establishment
of a Secretariat
A bank account and formal mailing address was identified
with the Seven Sisters Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. The Secretariat is co-located with the
Malaysian AIDS Council and fellow Sister organisation
APCASO. |
| 4. |
Development
of longer-term strategy for ASAP
Professor John Dwyer of University of NSW was confirmed
as the Public Officer of ASAP as required by legislation
administered by the Department of Fair Trading in
NSW, Australia. Registration of the new Public Officer
was completed. |

Strengthening
of future ICAAPs
ASAP continued to monitor progress made toward the
7th ICAAP in Kobe in July 2005. The Sri Lankan Health
Minister formerly wrote to ASAP inviting Colombo
to be selected as the host of the 8th ICAAP scheduled
for 2008. |

Work
toward strengthening relations with IAS
Final arrangements were made for representatives
of ASAP and IAS to meet in July during 7th ICAAP
to agree on next steps in developing the relationship
and to strengthen arrangements at the international
conference level. |

Strengthen
work in the area of women, gender and HIV/AIDS
There remains a need to build linkages with women
throughout the Asia and Pacific regions to promote
equality and reduce vulnerability to HIV by ensuring
their voices are heard by key leaders. The Working
Group expects to report back to ExCo during their
next meeting in July 2005. |

Continue
the development of a network of social scientists
throughout the Asia Pacific region focused on HIV/AIDS.
ASAP has committed to a process of creating such
a network with UNESCO. ASAP has been identified
by UNESCO as a partner in a forthcoming Regional
Workshop re-named to “Setting a Social Research
Agenda on Trafficking and HIV/AIDS”. A representative
of ASAP will attend the UNESCO workshop. |

Consultation
with 7 Sisters Forum
ASAP continued to publish its activities on its
shared Seven Sister’s Website. In addition,
ASAP participated in the 7Sisters annual meeting
in Bangkok in April. |
