CARAM Asia
We thank you and all our Japanese colleagues for your hard work and commitment to date in trying to organize the 7th ICAAP in Kobe.

However, we are very disappointed with the decision of the LOC regarding the postponement of the conference. We also deeply regret the gaps in process and regard for the opinion of the sponsors and co-sponsors in arriving at the decision to post pone the 7th ICAAP.

As stated in our earlier mail on the issue, CARAM supports the idea of going ahead with the ICAAP all though we appreciate your concerns regarding the potential problems that the re-emergence of SARS in winter might bring. We support the reasons and issues raised by the sponsors and co-sponsors of the ICAAP regarding not cancelling the ICAAP. This ICAAP is also important because the next World AIDS Conference is going to be in Asia and we must make sure during the 7th ICAAP that there will be a link in process and issues to make the next World AIDS Conference in BKK effective and fruitful.

We urge you go ahead with the conference as scheduled.

With Kind Regards,
Sharuna Verghis
CARAM Asia

APNSW is very aware of the problems you face in terms of a possible threat from SARS.

Along with other IAC members, APNSW is deeply sympathetic to the problems you face, but I would remind you that APNSW as co-sponsors of the Congress feel disturbed and believe that it is not practical to postpone the conference as voiced out by other IAC members. Therefore APNSW believe that 7th ICAAP should be carried out as planned.

Sincerely,
Khartini Slamah
APNSW
